
PM Modi expresses his condolences on the death of great Odia writer Binapani Mohanty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness at the death of renowned Odia writer Binapani Mohanty on Sunday, praising her “monumental contributions” to Odia literature, particularly fiction writing.
Mohanty died on Sunday night at her Cuttack home owing to age-related issues, according to her relatives.
Mohanty, a Padma Shri recipient, died at the age of 85. She was a single woman who shared her home with her nephew.
“Pained by the passing away of noted writer Binapani Mohanty Ji. She made monumental contributions to Odia literature, especially fiction writing,” Modi said in a tweet.
“Her works have been translated in various languages and attained great popularity. Condolences to her family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the prime minister said.
Mohanty is the author of almost 100 books. Patadei, Kasturi Mriga O Sabuja Aranya, Khela Ghara, Naiku Rasta, Bastraharana, and Andhakarara are some of her best-known songs.
